pga_conference_083October 2008 saw Adrian re establish the North Region PGA Coaching Conference at Drivetime after a 9 year absence from his original events he started in 1998.

Along with coaches equally as passionate about the quality of coaching and player performance Fryer was joined with Steve Cardy (Senior PGA Swing Tutor/Essex County Coach), Mark Pearson (European Tour Coach/ Former Belfry Academy Head) and Dr Karl Morris (European Tour Mind Factor Guru).

The event was well received by all the PGA members who attended and looks set to go from strength to strength.

Adrian Fryer, Fellow of the PGA is head professional and full time coach at the Drivetime Golf Centre, Warrington, Cheshire since 1991.Formerly the youngest club pro in the region in 1984 aged 22 at Chorley GC Fryer then moved to the Warrington Golf Club and was latterly instrumental in setting up Drivetime Golf where he is now one of the busiest coaches in the North West.

Fryer has relentlessly studied most teachers, systems and teaching methods complemented by studying thousands of swing techniques on video at his teaching facility and on Tour. His holistic approach to improvement has seen him also study and work alongside leaders in the field including putting and psychology. A consistently featured contributor to Today’s Golfer magazine over the last 8 years Fryer is currently one their featured Top 12 instructors and coaches players at every level from beginner up to many regional professionals.With his guidance his students have captured five County Ladies Championships, he also has several male students representing England squads alongside pupils topping the Northern Order of Merit, Tamsel tour and winning two British National Assistants titles.

Fryer’s passion for anything coaching related saw him instigate the popular first North Region PGA coaching conference in 1998 prior to the PGA CPD programmes. This year sees the return of the event, which he promises, will offer a valuable insight into the tools required as a serious coach.

Stephen Cardy PGA Advanced Professional is a full time golf coach; he has many years experience in coaching players that range from PGA Professionals, Elite Amateurs and club golfers.

In recent years Stephen has spent a lot of his coaching time working with young elite amateurs at The Sports Academy. Further enhancing Stephen’s excellent coaching reputation he holds the highly distinguished posts of PGA of Great Britain National Swing Tutor and Swing Examiner. Furthermore, he has been a leading light in establishing the Essex County Coaching programme as one of the most successful of its kind in the UK. This he has achieved in his capacity as an Essex County Coach Throughout his career Steve has attended, and contributed to, many teaching and coaching summits in the UK, mainland Europe and the USA.

Stephen is also currently studying for an MSc in The Science of Sports Coaching at London South Bank University.

Dr Karl Morris is one of Europe’s leading Mind Coaches and Director of Masterstroke Ltd. From the world of golf, he has worked with Ryder Cup players and tournament winners such as Darren Clarke, David Howell, Paul McGinley, Graeme McDowell, Lee Westwood, Trish Johnson and former ladies U.S Open champion Alison Nicholas. Premiership footballers, Rugby internationals and snooker legend Jimmy White are just some of the successful client base who have benefited from mental game training. He has worked with Manchester United F.C. in the development of their ‘Players Programme’ In the memorable Ashes summer of 2005, England cricket Captain Michael Vaughan worked successfully with Karl on a one-to-one basis throughout the series. A consultant to the PGA of Great Britain and Europe, Dr Karl Morris has presented seminars and workshops all over the world to the Australian PGA, German PGA, Belgian PGA, Swedish PGA and the Hong Kong Golf Association. Also, working with top class amateurs, he is the golf psychologist to the National squads of the English Ladies Golf Association. From the world of business, his clients include amongst others Red Bull, Volvo, Akzo Nobel and BDO.

Regular feature writer for a host of publications including Golf World, Today’s Golfer, Golf International and National Club Golfer, he is also the author of the book ‘Masterstroke’ and the recently published ‘Golf – The Mind Factor’ with Darren Clarke. Karl’s passion is to demystify psychology to provide a range of practical and applicable tools to all levels to assist in performance breakthrough.

A PGA Professional for 23 years and former Head Teaching Professional /Academy Manager at The Belfry now Director of Instruction at DeVere Oulton Hall in Leeds and has recently formed his own company the Performance Management Group which specialises in the development of Elite players. Mark has given over 30,000 lessons to golfers of all abilities has attended numerous World and European Coaching seminars in addition to contributing to national magazines and television. Mark currently coaches a number of players on the PGA European Tour and divides his time between attending events and overseeing the development of the new DeVere flagship Academy at Oulton Hall. Mark’s most successful player has been Phillip Archer who in a journey lasting 10 years has risen from a promising Assistant Professional to one of Europe’s top players. Marks approach to coaching is very much a ‘no stone unturned approach’ with the balance of what we practice almost being as important as how we do it.

He’s a big fan of statistics and measuring performance and its component parts so that we can make educated decisions on how to develop a player’s game. He has recently developed his own performance management system and is well known for the use of technology with his players.
